Pro Bono: Target Google Position From 72 to >27 in 15 Days (Euro Focus)

We donated a SEO optimization sprint to help a small client gain traction in Europe and used the project as a case study.

Summary

A low-budget client needed fast SEO traction but couldn’t afford an engagement. We donated a short pro bono Surge Sprint on their existing website and documented the results.

Snapshot

Client: Charity Client
Engagement Type: Surge Launch – SEO optimization only (no rebuild)
Timeframe: 15 days – June 11 → June 26 (GSC) + June 13 → June 27 (Matomo)
Primary Goal: Improve rankings fast while focusing efforts strictly on the Euro market
Cost to Client: $0 (pro bono)

The Goal

The client’s request was specific:
“Only focus on Europe.”
They didn’t want diluted efforts or broad global targeting, just stronger Euro-market visibility and traffic.

What We Did

This site already existed so we were limited. We focused on immediate, high-leverage optimization:

  • On-page SEO upgrades on priority pages (titles, headings, intent alignment)
  • Structure + internal linking improvements to strengthen topical relevance
  • Cleaner indexing signals so pages could be understood and ranked faster
  • Euro-market alignment so the work reflected the audience the client wanted most

Results

Google Search Console (June 11 → June 26)

Baseline checkpoint: June 11 showed an average position of 72 before the charity sprint optimizations took effect. [Charity Client]
After: by June 26, average position improved to 43.9, a +28.1 position lift in 15 days. In the countries they wanted to focus on the position increased to >27, an increase of 45 positions. [Charity Client]
  • Average position improved: 72 → 43.9 (>27 in Target GEO)
  • Net gain: >45 positions in 15 days
  • Period Highlights:
    • From 3 clicks/day to 233 clicks/day
    • From 253 impressions/day to 510 impressions/day
    • From 1.2% CTR to 45.7% Click Through Rate
    • From Avg Position 72 to >27 in Target GEO

Euro Focus Confirmed (Matomo Geo Snapshot: June 13 → June 27)

Because the client only wanted the Euro market, we validated the audience delivery via location data:

Euro-only focus worked: geo snapshot shows 916 visits with traffic concentrated in European markets (Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Austria) [Charity Client]
  • 916 visits during the geo snapshot window
  • Leading countries included:
    • Hungary (276)
    • Germany (194)
    • Switzerland (119)
    • Austria (85)

This supported the intent of the sprint: concentrate visibility and traffic in Europe.

Why This Worked

We didn’t need a rebuild or a long-term campaign. The outcome came from:

  • tightening page relevance,
  • realignment of target market signals,
  • aligning optimization around one clear avatar (their ideal client).

Takeaway

Even with a low budget, a short, focused SEO sprint can produce measurable ranking momentum, especially when effort is intentionally concentrated on a single region (Europe, in this case).
